South Road Farm · Fayette, Maine
Ceremony Under Open Sky. Dancing Until Midnight.
Two ceremony sites, 66 acres, and Maine light that does most of the work for you.
Inquire About Your DateSouth Road Farm has two ceremony sites. One is an open field with views in every direction — the kind of setting where you forget there's a photographer because you're too busy looking around. The other is tucked into the treeline, quieter, more sheltered. Both have a hand-built wooden arch and land that's been held in one form or another since 1793.
Located in Fayette, Maine — an easy drive from Augusta, Lewiston, and the greater Portland area.

Two sites, two entirely different feelings
The open field ceremony site sits on elevated ground with views in every direction — sky, hills, and the kind of Maine light that photographers come specifically to find. It's best for couples who want grandeur and openness. The wooded ceremony site is accessed by a path through the trees and feels completely private, like the rest of the world has stepped back. Both sites use the same hand-built wooden arch. The choice comes down to what kind of feeling you want for the moment.
The full outdoor picture
The ceremony is only the beginning of the outdoor experience at South Road Farm. Cocktail hour happens on the lawn and in the courtyard — fire pits lit, the bar open, live music filling the field at golden hour. Dinner can move between the barns and tented outdoor space. Late night finds people drifting back outside around the fires. The 66 acres aren't a backdrop. They're active participants in the whole weekend.
"When I returned home, I longed for the night sounds of the farm — the steady chorus of crickets, the throaty calls of tree frogs, the sudden screech of an owl. The moonrise over the barn and stable transported me to a time when its pale light stretched a farmer's day."
— Dyanna Lincoln, whose family farmed this land for decades

The area around South Road Farm
The landscape around Fayette is part of what makes the outdoor experience at South Road Farm work as well as it does. Echo Lake's public beach is minutes away; Parker Pond offers quiet paddling at sunrise. The Kennebec Highlands rise to the west, with trail networks connecting to Blueberry Hill and Mount Pisgah — short hikes with views that give wedding guests a sense of the broader lake country they're in. The light in central Maine in September and October — when the maples and birches turn — is something photographers specifically travel to find. Planning a late September or October wedding date means the surrounding landscape is doing as much visual work as the property itself.
Common questions
What does a weekend at South Road Farm cost?
Weekend rentals start at $12,000. That's a single, all-in price — no à la carte fees, no vendor surcharges, no hidden add-ons. You get the full property: both barns, the farmhouse, all ceremony sites, and every outdoor space from Friday afternoon through Sunday midday. Pricing varies by weekend, with peak dates in September and October priced higher. Reach out and we'll send a full breakdown.
How many guests can South Road Farm accommodate?
South Road Farm comfortably hosts up to 150 guests for ceremonies and receptions, with space for dining, dancing, and celebrating both indoors and out — across two barns, the courtyard, and the surrounding grounds.
How long is the weekend rental?
The property is yours from Friday afternoon through Sunday at noon. That includes time to arrive, set up, rehearse, celebrate, and wind down without feeling rushed at any point. Sunday morning is part of every booking, not an add-on.
Can we choose our own vendors?
Yes. You're free to choose your own caterer, bar service, photographer, florist, and entertainment. We do require a licensed and insured bar service to handle alcohol, and a professional wedding planner or day-of coordinator.
Is shuttle service required?
Yes — on-site parking accommodates approximately 50 vehicles, so for larger guest lists a shuttle is required. Most couples arrange shuttles from a central hotel block in Augusta. We're happy to share vendor recommendations.
Is the farmhouse included in the rental price?
Yes. The farmhouse is included in every weekend rental at no additional charge. It sleeps up to 10 guests across four bedrooms and is part of the weekend package.
What happens if it rains during the ceremony?
We recommend couples have a rain plan in place, which your wedding planner will help coordinate. Having two barns gives you real flexibility — the main barn can serve as a backup ceremony space, or the cocktail barn can be repurposed for the ceremony while the main barn holds the reception. Your planner and our team will walk through contingency configurations during the planning process.
Can we do an outdoor reception as well as an outdoor ceremony?
Yes — the property has power hookups and space for large tents if you want to keep dinner and dancing outside. Many couples do a hybrid: outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour, then move into the barns for dinner and dancing.
When is golden hour at the farm?
Golden hour timing depends on the season. In June it falls around 7:30–8pm, in September around 6:30–7pm. Most couples time their cocktail hour to coincide with it — the light on the farm during that window is extraordinary.
Are there fire pits available?
Yes — fire pits are part of the property and available throughout the weekend. They're particularly popular during cocktail hour and late night.
About the farm
South Road Farm has been on this land since 1793. The post-and-beam barns went up in the early 1800s. The property ran as a working farm continuously until 2018 — longer than Maine has been a state. What you see now is the result of several years of restoration work done largely by hand by Dave, a lifelong carpenter and co-owner of the property.
We host a limited number of weddings each season, by design. Every couple gets the same thing: the whole property, the whole weekend, our full attention.
